Why the Red Tour of Veles?

It is named after the Red Poet, who is the central figure of this tour.

Kosta Solev Racin – one of the most significant Macedonian poets and writers, was born in Veles on February 22, 1908.

He is known as one of the key figures in Macedonian literature and an important symbol of cultural and national awakening in Macedonia. His poetry is recognized for addressing social injustices, workers' rights, and revolutionary spirit.

Kosta Solev Racin developed as a person and creator right in Veles. As a young man, he lived in this city and began his poetic career here. Veles, which was an industrial center at that time, was a place of social and political controversies that Racin reflected in his verses. He spent his childhood and youth here, which influenced his work and later political orientation.

Racin was called the "Red Poet" because of his political orientation and active engagement in leftist and communist ideas. His poetry, especially in his youth, was closely connected to workers' rights and the struggle for a just society.

By visiting the Memorial House of Kočo Racin, we will gain a deeper understanding of his life and work. There, we can also see original manuscripts of his creations.

Poetry Alley and the Old Cobblestones in Veles

We will visit the pottery workshop where he learned the craft.

The places where political discussions took place.

The industrial zones.

The hideaways.

The old and new theaters, both named after the poet.

The verses that adorn the city and monuments dedicated to him.

The Memorial Ossuary, where his remains rest.

The Red Tour of Veles, in addition to exploring the life and work of Kosta Solev Racin, delves into the significance of Veles as an industrial and workers' center, which played a crucial role in the development of leftist ideas in Macedonia and former Yugoslavia. This city hosted many workers' protests, revolutionary movements, and social struggles, and its residents were often involved in the communist struggle.

The tour concludes in the evening with a return trip to Skopje.
