Meet part of the culture living in the heart of Old Skopje Bazaar

Team Kajak.mk is so happy to have had the first ever chance of hanging out with a group of curious travelers all the way from USA. They came with the sole purpose of fulfill enjoyment of Macedonian traditions and to taste the gastronomic side of Skopje.

These types of visits and groups are motivating us to continue exploring and discovering new locals, artisans & chefs who give history a different meaning with their stories from the old streets of Skopje.

For those of you who still haven’t had the chance to explore the Old Skopje Bazaar we would like to give you some tips on good corners that are a must visit. Why? Because the stories these artisans have, will leave you speechless.

Let’s start with the story of Uncle Burhan. Near the “Bedesten” every morning you can smell freshly grounded Turkish coffee prepared by the one and only Uncle Burhan. We chose this place as our first destination because of his unique way of preparing the coffee, while discovering more about Turkish traditions.

Uncle Burhan grounds Turkish coffee every morning, that is a guarantee of freshness and good taste. Every guest is surprised of the way the coffee is actually prepared. Here you have a chance to see Turkish coffee prepared on an old Turkish way, where cezves are put on a hot sand until the coffee is done. It is served with locum and a glass of water. Beside Turkish coffee, you can find delicious lemonade with mint, Turkish tea, and lots of sweets.

Another suggestion we would like to give you is a unique hidden gem inside this bazaar and that is the international brewery “An” in the center of Kapan Han. We consider it as one of the most remarkable places here in the bazaar. You have a chance to learn about the history of this place, the people that work here and taste their delicious food. Do not forget to order warm bread with pesto on top of it.
