Today, we will share the story of Duško Matoski, the host of the family restaurant "Belojški Biser," which is now part of our "Gastronomy" database.
Duško started writing his story 13 years ago. Based in the village of Belovište, which at that time few had heard of, today it has become a tourist destination that people visit year-round.
For those who haven't heard of Belovište, this village is located 20 kilometers from Tetovo, towards the Yajince border crossing. In close proximity to the picnic spot Petačko Vodiče, along the road leading to it, on the left side, you'll find our restaurant "Belojški Biser," a blend of tradition and modernity.
Duško says that, like any beginning, his was tough, but thanks to local mountaineering clubs, they managed to promote this family business in the region, at the national and even international levels.
Today, they are happy that, as the first in the region, they managed to encourage others to follow their example, increasing the number of restaurants in the area by three.
He adds that the family business – Matoski was started with the aim of offering guests an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Šar Mountain, nearby hiking trails, the mountain breeze created by a nearby waterfall, and finishing the walk with a meal prepared in a unique way. The house, built in 1934, was adapted for several days of rest so that guests could enjoy the beauties of our region, says Duško.
"When it comes to food, we always strive to have fresh ingredients. For appetizers, guests often order zucchini with fresh cheese and homemade sheep's cheese, all accompanied by homemade rakija. For the main course, we recommend trying the diplomatic burger or the stuffed pork 'Belojški Biser,' and for an even richer taste, make sure to order our homemade wine. Among the traditional dishes, we recommend tavče gravče, rural meat, homemade pie, bakardan, or topenica, but these dishes are made to order, ensuring guests always enjoy freshly prepared food," recommend the restaurant.
The restaurant can be reached by car, but for guests who enjoy hiking, they can leave their cars in the village and enjoy a 1.5 km walk. The entire path to the restaurant follows the river, so in addition to hiking, guests can enjoy the sound of the river. Let's not forget the cyclists who prefer steeper trails. The hosts are happy to welcome and look forward to guests arriving by bicycle.
