A New Chapter for Wine Production in Demir Kapija

A New Chapter for Wine Production in Demir Kapija

At Kajak.mk, we welcome everyone who feels connected to tourism in Macedonia. We always emphasize that increased local involvement in domestic tourism leads to more dynamic development.

Our database of local heroes who contribute significantly to the development of tourism includes Zoran Stojanov from Demir Kapija. From a young age, Zoran dreamed of being involved in wine production, and this year, that dream has become a reality with the official recognition of his winery.

Zoran was born in Demir Kapija. His initial exposure to winemaking came from visiting the local winery, where he frequently expressed his desire to work. After graduating from university, he secured his first job at that same winery, where he gained valuable experience in the wine production process.

One of the reasons he began producing wine was due to the marketing challenges faced by wine grape growers in Macedonia back in 2001. In early 2004, he acquired stainless steel tanks and equipment for wine production. Later that same year, he created his first wine from the Rhein Riesling variety, producing approximately 600 liters.

Over the years, Zoran expanded his production by introducing red wine made from the Vranec variety. In 2023, he decided to formalize this family venture and register it as a small family winery. In April 2024, he officially received the registration decision for his winery, which is called 'Winery Canyon.'

The Canyon family winery proudly produces wine from Vranec, Rhein Riesling, and Chardonnay grape varieties, as well as a blend of Rhein Riesling and Vranec. The grapes are sourced from their own vineyards, and the winery has a production capacity of up to 2,800 liters of wine, with plans for future expansion.

The Canyon winery is named after the scenic gorge of the Vardar River, a well-known symbol of Demir Kapija. The design of the bottle labels evokes the striking entrance to the canyon.

The team at Kajak.mk is excited to share stories about new small family wineries. If you would like to order wine from Winery Canyon, click HERE.
