Weekend Destination Suggestion: Rural Eco-Household in the Village of Ramne

The team at Kajak.mk, together with SKOPSKO, continues to share the stories of local eco-heroes who deserve support for the work they do.

Today, we take you to the village of Ramne, where we found Natasha Nedanoska in her rural yard, preparing homemade jam. Natasha is our local heroine who has been spreading positivity through her work for a long time, educating new generations on how to love and care for nature.

Natasha's home has long been part of the Kajak.mk world as a wonderful gastro destination that you should visit.

"Being a rural household inherently means offering our everyday life as an authentic experience for the guests who visit us. As a family, we strive to live in harmony with ecology, while also taking actions in that direction," Natasha began the conversation for Kajak.mk.

At the very core of their household is tradition, but they mostly rely on traditional Macedonian cuisine. When food is the focus of all activities, the Nedanoski family is equally focused on their eco-friendly actions.

"By hosting people who want to taste various foods prepared in a traditional way, under the bell, on pirostija, we aim to cook as many different recipes as possible and promote our history through food," says Natasha.

It is admirable that in the Nedanoski family, food is never wasted! It is served in trays, as it was in the past, and guests take as much as they believe they will eat. What remains in the plates is a sweet treat for the hunting dogs, and the crumbs go to the chickens. The peels from the food preparation process are partly composted, while the rest becomes a delicious salad for the rabbits and chickens. The eggshells are used to make a solution for the flowers, and sometimes the baked powder is used in the food for the pigs. And what remains in the trays, unfinished? That becomes a snack for a passing traveler, food for the extended family, or a multi-day breakfast or lunch.

To prepare the food, they rely on their own meat production from their mini-farm, and the fruits and vegetables also come from their small garden.

This concept helps Natasha utilize barnyard manure, while also avoiding the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and hormones. Guests often ask if they have organic production, and the answer is that they treat the food they grow for themselves organically and serve it to their visitors.

Natasha says that they also "borrow" food from nature. She explains, "We 'borrow' because, according to her, they neither planted nor watered it. So, when they gather berries, mushrooms, nettles, herbs, fruits, nuts, and juniper from nature, they not only make sure not to damage them but also teach those who come with them how to behave towards nature."

The delicious homemade food prepared with local ingredients is the reason why you should visit the Nedanovski family. The beautiful nature, which offers active walks, clean air, and the ideal altitude, will contribute to a more pleasant weekend and relieve you from stress. Don’t forget to pair these active destinations and tasty food with a cold SКОПСКО.
