Kajak.mk Supports Local Heroes: The Story of Verka, Miodrag, and Dragan
Before you comment on our headline, claiming you know people who might be more valuable than Verka, Miodrag, and Dragan, the Kajak.mk team wants to emphasize that the headline was set as such in order to introduce you to the difficult moments in the lives of many Macedonians whose fate forced them to start hard work that will change their lives.
Our stories aim to motivate the youth in Macedonia, while supporting the adults who produce unique things worth experiencing.
Today, we take you to the village of German, where at an altitude of 1300 meters, in the early 90s, the story of Verka, Miodrag, and Dragan begins. These are people who defied the bad mornings and started living the rural life with full hearts.
In the world of Kajak.mk, we call these people local heroes who have dedicated themselves to growing and producing local food, which today is talked about by many of their loyal customers.
Their story began in the 90s in the village of German, where, with united efforts, they started planting orchards and vegetables, raising goats, rabbits, pigs, making cheeses, urda, raising chickens, collecting mushrooms, herbs, and even producing homemade jams, compotes, and preserves.
All of this, the three of them do to secure finances for their grandchildren, something that was the only way to ensure income at that time.
Over time, they created their own little corner and peace here, something they couldn't find anywhere else. As time passed, they realized that rosehip jam was a product they made with very high quality, and that their customers were most interested in purchasing it.
Today, their life is filled with daily activities in the production of rosehip jam, which we know has the most labor-intensive production process. The oldest member of the team is 71 years old, and their love for production keeps them going at full steam.
Vera says that the process through which the rosehip must go to end up in a jar that will satisfy the buyer's appetite starts with the harvest. The rosehips they use for the jam are local, mostly from the village of German and the surrounding area, where they go for walks. For them, the most important thing is that the rosehips are natural and have not been touched by human hands, meaning they are not sprayed or cultivated. Because, as Vera adds, the most important thing is to use the power of nature.
Climate change makes the rosehip harvest more difficult, says Vera. There are days when it takes kilometers of walking to find wild, fresh, beautiful, and large rosehips. This is perhaps the main reason why high-quality jam made from natural rosehips is becoming a rarity throughout the country.
The Kajak.mk team, from the very beginning as a platform, has been giving full support to such local heroes. So, when we asked about the best time of year to buy this rosehip jam, Vera answered that the most suitable time for ordering it is in the autumn, when the rosehips are harvested and the preparation and making of the jam begins.
We will soon add the jam to our store, but until then, you can feel free to contact us at the number: 075/271-989.
