The Kajak.mk team seeks out locals who produce unique products, and we are increasingly including these producers in our social and team-building trips across Macedonia.
Today, we want to introduce you to Kostadin Vodanov, the first person in Macedonia to produce persimmon rakija. Kostadin is part of our team-building programs in the Dojran region. Alongside the Mandri, where you can enjoy lunch with your colleagues, and the specialties of grilled fish on a reed, the south of Macedonia also offers tastings of various alcoholic beverages.
Kostadin Vodanov says the idea came naturally from his desire to create something new. Over the past five years, he experimented, and last year, after much effort, he managed to perfect the ideal recipe. Today, he has a machine that crushes and grinds the fruit, processing it into a mixture that later ages.
Kostadin produces his rakija in Stojakovo. He sources regular apples from Bogdanci and has his own plantation of 300 persimmon trees. He produces rakija from pure apples, from persimmons, and a mix of both.
The production process is similar to that of other fruit rakijas, including harvesting, fermentation, distillation, aging, and adding flavors.
Kostadin says the taste is unique and that he has received many compliments from close friends and customers.
Beyond the praise, Kostadin has already won several awards and recognitions. One of his many awards was received at the "Guardians of Tradition" event, held in the Apatin region of northern Serbia—a gathering that promotes various rakijas from multiple participating countries. There, he won first prize for the best "Grape Rakija."
