Jani and Melisa say that the idea to open such a wine room stemmed from their shared passion for wine, but also from the widespread vineyards found in the Gevgelija region.
While traveling around Macedonia, they realized that the country has a great potential for wine that needs to be thoroughly promoted to the Macedonian public. Therefore, they decided to turn the idea into a new tasting experience.
They started by creating a concept that would primarily serve as a promoter of unique local wines, with the main goal of encouraging the local population to prefer wine over hard spirits—something that is quite common in Mediterranean European countries like Italy, France, Slovenia, and Spain.
They pair the wine tastings with appetizers that include cured meats and dairy products, as the old saying goes, "You don't drink on an empty stomach." All of this is well combined with quality red, white, and rosé wines.
For the spring and summer periods, they plan to combine tastings of white and rosé wines with fresh fruits, which are perfect for refreshing the body and mind.
From DiWine, they add that their doors are wide open for collaboration with all small family wineries. Their goal is to provide as much support and promotion as possible for local wines.
When asked who has supported them the most, Melisa says it’s their closest family and friends, but the wind in their sails is Jani's position at the well-known winery Bovin, from which they source some of their products.
Along with the wide range of wines, the establishment also offers daily alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There is even the possibility for guests to enjoy a good chat with a cup of quality coffee.
Jani and Melisa say that DiWine’s doors are open to all guests—from those who enjoy a good glass of wine to those who want to learn more. They are happy to already have regular guests, who, as they say, enjoy the unique ambiance.
Today, they are writing the story together, but in the future, they hope that the DiWine family will grow. DiWine is located in the heart of the Old Bazaar in Gevgelija.
