Truffle Hunting Tour in Kumanovo and Kriva Palanka | An Authentic Nature Experience

Book a unique truffle hunting tour and discover the world of these valuable forest delicacies through the beautiful landscapes of Kumanovo, Kriva Palanka, and Mount Kozjak with the Peren Peak area.

During the tour, you will enjoy a walk through the forest accompanied by a local guide and his two trained dogs, Arthur and Ava, from the famous Italian breed Lagotto Romagnolo, considered one of the best breeds for truffle hunting.

The uniqueness of this experience lies in the search itself – you will enjoy nature, learn how truffles are found, and follow the process together with the dogs as they search through the forest. It is important to know that finding a truffle is not always guaranteed. The rarity of these forest treasures is exactly why black truffles can reach very high market values.

Regardless of whether you are lucky enough to find a truffle, the tour always includes tasting fresh truffles and various truffle-based products.

Two tours are available:

Tour 1: Truffle Hunting in the Kumanovo Region

The starting location is arranged with the guide, who will meet you at an asphalt road in the surroundings of Kumanovo. The location can be reached with any type of vehicle.

The tour starts from the asphalt road and continues through the forest, where you begin the truffle search together with the guide and the dogs.

During the walk, the guide will explain:

• How truffles are found
• Different types of truffles
• How dogs are trained for truffle hunting
• Interesting stories and facts related to this tradition

After the search, a tasting of homemade products follows:

• Truffle honey, used as an addition to fruit salads
• Truffle rakija
• Fresh truffle tasting

Tour duration: approximately 4 hours

Parking is provided for guests, and the tour starts from the parking location.

Tour 2: Full-Day Truffle Hunting Tour on Mount Peren

The full-day tour starts from an asphalt road that can be reached with any type of vehicle.

The guide will meet you at the location and continue with you in a 4x4 off-road vehicle together with the dogs towards Mount Peren, at an altitude of approximately 700 meters.

After arriving at a mountain cottage, you will have a short break, followed by the start of the truffle hunting experience through the beautiful forest area.

After the search, you return to the cottage, where an organized picnic lunch awaits you with:

• Local specialties with truffles
• Rakija tasting

After lunch, you return to the starting location.

The tour is designed for 2 to 4 people. For larger groups, transportation is organized with additional trips.

Parking is provided for guests, and the tour starts from the parking location.

Truffle Hunting Season

Truffle hunting can be organized throughout the entire year.

• From May to October, one type of truffle is available
• From October to March, another type of truffle is available

Visitor Recommendations

For a comfortable and safe experience, visitors are recommended to bring:

• Long trousers
• Hiking shoes or sturdy sports shoes (in dry weather)
• A jacket depending on the season and weather conditions
• Gloves if they wish to actively explore the soil

For visitors who only want an educational experience and observation, gloves are not required.
