One-Day Tour Through Skopje. The City that Unites Different
Eras.
Our journey begins with a visit to the Museum of
Contemporary Art. Here, your exploration of contemporary artistic expression
and creativity begins, while you enjoy the panoramic view of the city's central
part, as well as the new artistic trends shaping Macedonian art.
The next stop is the Kale Fortress – a historical monument
that witnesses the turbulent history of Skopje, located on the hill above the
city. From here, you have an incredible view of the city, the Vardar River, and
the entire region.
The Church of St. Spas, where the tomb of Macedonian king
Alexander the Great is kept. Inside, you will witness stunning beauty – icons
and carvings reflecting the rich Orthodox cultural heritage of the region.
The next important destination is the Museum of Macedonia,
where you will learn about the country's history through its fascinating
collection of icons, ethnological, and historical exhibits. Every corner of the
museum tells a story dating back to ancient times, while at the same time
allowing you to feel the roots of modern Macedonian culture.
The Old Bazaar – the heart of Skopje, where centuries-old
traditions blend with the modern spirit of the city. Here, at every step, you
will encounter ancient caravanserais and Turkish baths, such as Čifte Amam and
Daud Pasha's Amam, dating from the 15th century and serving as perfect examples
of Ottoman architecture and culture. Every place tells stories from the times
when Skopje was part of the vast Ottoman Empire.
The Stone Bridge, one of the oldest and most significant
monuments in the city. Its historical and architectural value makes it a key
symbol of Skopje. The bridge, which connects the old and new parts of the city,
serves as a bridge between the past and the present.
From here, we continue our journey to Macedonia Square,
where you will encounter the modern side of the city – new statues and
monuments, among which are many significant Macedonian historical figures.
Nearby is the Memorial House of Mother Teresa, dedicated to
the life and humanitarian work of this divine person. You will have the
opportunity to learn more about her deeds and the legacy she left in the world.
As we travel, we head toward Vodno, the mountain that
dominates Skopje. With a cable car ride, we ascend to the Millennium Cross,
from where the view of the city and surrounding areas is spectacular. Vodno is
perfect for hiking, and its nature and fresh air will refresh and inspire you
for the next part of our tour.
Gorno Nerezi is the next stop, where you will visit the
Church of St. Panteleimon, a true gem of Macedonian spirituality and
architecture. Here, you can enjoy the tranquility and spiritual energy that
surrounds this holy place.
We conclude our journey with a visit to Matka Canyon.
The One-Day Tour Through Skopje is a journey through the
heart of Macedonia, where history, culture, and nature merge in a unique and
