Kajak.mk invites you to a full-day monastery tour in the
western and southwestern regions of North Macedonia. The number of participants
is limited, as this tour focuses on small groups with a high-quality guide and
photographer, allowing for better interaction and socializing.
Maximum group size: 8-10 people.
- Departure
from Skopje in the morning (time arranged with the group)
- Travel
to Kičevo and visit the renowned medieval monastery "Holy Virgin of
Prečista," built in 1316. Located 10 km from Kičevo, this monastery
sits at 920 meters above sea level, surrounded by greenery and clean air.
It is also known as the "Kičevo Monastery" or "Krnino
Monastery." Here, you can see an ancient silver icon of the Virgin
Mary. The monastery is home to an active monastic community with dedicated
and friendly nuns who always make visitors feel welcome and comfortable.
- Travel
to Struga. Take a walk through the old bazaar and relax by the shores of
the Black Drim River.
- Next,
we head to the famous village of Vevčani, often referred to by locals as a
"state within a state." Vevčani has its own passport and
currency, which are used as souvenirs. Explore the village and admire the
well-preserved traditional houses of families such as Korunovci,
Kostojičnovci, Kitanovci, and Ducikinovci. The visit will also include the
famous Vevčani Springs, where locals will share fascinating stories about
the springs and the historical struggles and sacrifices of the Vevčani people.
- Next
stop: Kalista. Visit the "Holy Virgin" Monastery, also known as
the "Kalista Monastery," which dates back to the 11th century.
The monastery complex includes a cave church, which was the foundation for
the current structure, and a church dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul.
The monastery houses the famous Black Virgin Mary icon, one of only a few
in the world, with intriguing legends surrounding it. In the past,
invaders would bind the icon with chains and submerge it in the lake, but
it would always mysteriously reappear on the shore where the monastery now
stands.
Following this, we will visit the nearby cave church
dedicated to St. Athanasius, dating back to the 14th century.
- Departure
to Raždož. Visit the well-known cave church of St. Archangel Michael,
which dates back to the 13th century. The church's location offers
breathtaking views of Lake Ohrid.
The rest of the day will be free for activities in
Raždož—lunch, a walk around the village, or a visit to the beautiful beaches.
Raždož is home to some of the cleanest and most picturesque beaches.
- Return
to Skopje, depending on the group's preferences.
