Visit to the Millennium Cross
The Millennium Cross is one of the largest Christian crosses in the world, standing on the Krstovar peak of Mount Vodno, above Skopje. At 66 meters tall, the cross was erected in 2002 to mark the 2,000th anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ. It is an important symbol of Orthodox Christianity and a significant tourist landmark in Macedonia.

From the summit, enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Skopje.

You will have plenty of free time for photos, coffee, and enjoying the fresh air.

The return will be around lunchtime.

Additional Information:

For hiking in the mountains, it’s crucial to be well-prepared, as conditions can change quickly. Here’s what you’ll need:

Basic Clothing:

  • Windbreaker – to protect from rain and wind.
  • Thermal shirt/sweater – to retain body heat, especially if the trail is long or you’re at higher altitudes.
  • Long pants – lightweight, quick-drying materials are best. Waterproof pants are also an option.
  • Hat or scarf – for protection against sun or cold, particularly in higher areas.
  • Gloves – if hiking in higher elevations, winter gloves might be necessary.
  • Hiking boots – with a good anti-slip sole and ankle support to avoid injuries on uneven terrain.
  • Socks – comfortable and moisture-wicking.

Equipment:

  • Backpack – for carrying water, food, and extra clothing.
    • For shorter trails, a small backpack is ideal. For longer or more challenging hikes, a larger one is recommended.

Water and Snacks:

  • Water – bring enough water, especially on longer trails without natural water sources.
  • Snacks – light energy food like nuts, energy bars, or dried fruit.

Navigation:

  • Map or GPS device – useful to avoid getting lost on the trail.
  • Compass – for added security in case there’s no signal or for better orientation.

First Aid:

  • First aid kit – including basics like bandages, antiseptics, and pain or allergy medications.

Lighting:

  • Solar lantern or headlamp – if the hike takes long you risk returning in darkness.
