Our half-day tour begins just 3 kilometers from the modern center of Bitola, at the archaeological site of Heraclea Lyncestis. Founded by Philip II of Macedon in the 4th century BC, Heraclea was a key stop along the Via Egnatia road. The site is renowned for its preserved floor mosaics, Roman public baths, the Great Basilica with exquisite details, and the Ancient Theater, known for its incredible acoustics. A visit to Heraclea offers a unique journey through the ancient world and its architectural and artistic brilliance.

Next, we head to the City Museum, located in the impressive building from 1848 known as the Officer’s House. This museum boasts a rich collection of thousands of artifacts spanning prehistory, the Roman and Byzantine periods, and the modern history of Bitola. Highlights include exhibits related to the city’s diplomatic history and its cultural heritage.

The walk continues along Shirok Sokak, often referred to as Macedonia’s version of the Champs-Élysées. This vibrant pedestrian street is the social heart of Bitola, lined with elegant facades, charming cafes, and boutique shops. We will also visit the Church of St. Demetrius, one of the largest Orthodox temples in Macedonia, known for its magnificent iconostasis and spiritual ambiance.

Next, we proceed to the Clock Tower, a symbol of the city, and the Old Bazaar. During the 19th century, Bitola was the second-largest city in the European part of the Ottoman Empire (after Thessaloniki) and a vital trading hub with over 2,000 shops and workshops, most of which were located in the Old Bazaar. With its artisan stores and authentic atmosphere, the bazaar is a place where history comes alive.

After free time for lunch and the chance to purchase local souvenirs, we dedicate the afternoon to the Pelister National Park – Bitola’s pride and a natural escape from the summer heat.

Mount Baba, with its highest peak, Pelister (2,601 m above sea level), is the southernmost mountain in Europe with alpine characteristics. The national park is famous for its Molika pine forests (Pinus peuce), a true treasure of the Balkans. Pelister is home to one of the oldest and most compact forest communities, where trees older than 230 years can still be found. A walk through the park offers visitors fresh air and breathtaking views of nature.

In the late afternoon, we return to the center of Bitola, enriched with experiences and new memories.

Duration of the tour: 7-8 hours.
