We embark on our journey from Skopje in the early morning, departing from a designated location.
Our path leads us towards the majestic Mavrovo National Park, the largest in Macedonia, established in 1949. Spanning approximately 73,000 hectares, the park is renowned for its extraordinary natural beauty, lush forests, sweeping mountain vistas, and rich biodiversity.
Within this serene landscape, we will explore the renowned Sharko Cave, a subterranean marvel adorned with breathtaking stalactites, stalagmites, corals, and other intricate cave formations that paint a portrait of pristine natural beauty.
From Mavrovo, we continue to the revered St. John Bigorski Monastery, perched 2 kilometers from the village of Rostushe, Debar, at an elevation of 740 meters.
The monastery complex is a historical gem, featuring a sacred church, ossuary, defensive tower, monastic quarters, and newly constructed guest accommodations, all set against the backdrop of awe-inspiring natural surroundings.
Afterward, indulge in a traditional Macedonian lunch, savoring the flavors of the region, before we make our way back to Skopje.
