Reviving Rural Tourism: We Are Not Among Those Who Left the Village

Reviving Rural Tourism: We Are Not Among Those Who Left the Village

Hey, look outside, it's spring! Time to stretch, put on our sneakers, and grab our backpacks. Soon, we'll continue our green travels through Macedonia, Albania, Greece (hopefully), Turkey, Montenegro, Serbia...

While we're still in Macedonia, we want to share the eco story of 'Hostel House - Pirustija' by 'Pirustija Nedanovski.' This family stone house is located in the village of Ramne, Ohrid.

Located in the village right next to the largest fountain with a view of Lake Ohrid. The owners of 'Pirustija Nedanovski' say they are not among those young people who left the village house. On the contrary, they invested in its restoration and extension, creating a cozy corner for enjoyment.

What’s interesting about them is that they don’t enjoy their yard alone. Here, you’ll find relatives, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. Every weekend is filled with many people, socializing, and of course, quality food.

Most often, they prepare: Komat, koshmishpites, pitulici, gjomleze, and even bread, all prepared in a traditional way, under the sač (a metal lid).

Upon the recommendation of their close ones, they enrolled in rural tourism training. The idea was born spontaneously that they could offer this concept to people who would like to hear the story of preserving tradition. The village is just 3.5 km from the city, at an altitude of 960 meters, making it perfect for people who love hiking and cyclists. The house is also accessible by car.

The program also includes refreshing drinks such as peach, plum, cherry, or apricot compotes, as well as elderberry juice or mountain tea.

Speaking of the little ones, it's worth mentioning that in Ramne, there is a yard with a mini farm where children can pet a dog, chick, chicken, pig, rabbit, duck, or even a goat. They can dip their hand into the chicken coop to collect an egg, pull a carrot, and feed the rabbit.

You can find this story on Facebook under 'Pirustija Nedanovski,' with the logo of a traditional iron chair on which the sač (vršnik) rests.
