Marta’s Mountain House Redefines Classic Tourism on Šapka
A beautiful, cozy, and spacious mountain house located in the heart of the Popova Šapka ski center, just a short distance from the ski lift. With its traditional design and wooden interior, it offers a warm and homey atmosphere.
The house is fully equipped with all kitchen appliances, a washing machine, satellite TV, two LCD televisions, free Wi-Fi, an instant water heater for hot water, central heating throughout, and a front yard that can be used for barbecues.
Behind this stands Marta, a true enthusiast who sees tourism in Macedonia from a different perspective.

Hello, Marta. How did you come up with the idea for this unique mountain cabin rental concept?
Hello, hello, Kajak team! :)
My husband and I have always dreamed of living outside the city, and everything we’ve created so far has been to achieve that goal. We’re not afraid of hard work (laughs), but we prefer to work in nature—closer to the truth.
The universe saw that we wouldn’t give up on our idea, even when it seemed impossible, so it gave us this humble little cabin to manage. We decided to do our absolute best, and we still have many plans for further development in the mountains.
We turned it into a warm and cozy nest, with all the comforts and a lot of love. We constantly improve it, and the incredible support and recognition from our guests give us strength and hope that we will fulfill both our dreams and theirs. The suggestions our guests share with us guide our journey.

KAJAK: We assume your guests aren’t your typical travelers, but rather people who travel with style. What are their reactions?
I believe that people’s love for nature makes them better humans, and this belief has been confirmed by every guest who has visited us. Maybe the air does its part too, haha.
So far, we’ve had no complaints, thank God. Most guests are especially impressed by the colorful interior design, the impeccable cleanliness, and the fact that the kitchen is equipped with everything they could possibly need. They love that we have a greenhouse for gatherings when the weather doesn’t cooperate outside. Having central heating throughout the house is especially appreciated by guests with small children. In the middle of winter, people end up wearing summer clothes inside, haha!

KAJAK: Where do most of your guests come from? What do foreigners say about Popova Šapka?
We have all kinds of guests from everywhere. I couldn’t believe it this winter when we had visitors from Alaska. We’re still in touch with them, as well as with many others. They’re amazed by our wild beauty, Šapkica, and they constantly emphasize that we have enormous tourism potential, offering advice on how things could be improved.
It’s no secret that we need to work more on developing ecological awareness and fight against littering, which unfortunately is still present in our everyday lives and really bothers many of the foreign guests who visit us.
KAJAK: What is the difference between domestic and foreign guests?
All our guests have been wonderful and respectful. The only real difference is in finances. Foreign guests are amazed by how affordable we are and often leave a generous tip, while our local guests sometimes calculate the costs to check if the price is fair. We have no problem discussing this openly with them so they can understand that we’re not trying to rip them off, haha. Often, we agree on a fair price based on the circumstances.
The best tip and recognition from our foreign guests is when they say thank you in a way that shows it’s truly heartfelt, wishing us a bright future.
Everyone is careful to leave things as they found them, probably because they see how much attention we put into everything. Honestly, we didn’t expect all our guests to be so cultured. A huge thank you to our dear guests for your care; the love is mutual.

KAJAK: What should our travelers know before visiting you? What do you recommend?
Before visiting us, they should know that we have a pancake pan, haha! (Shoutout to everyone who will recognize this).
Don’t bring bottled water, because ours is nectar.
We recommend bringing clothes for all types of weather, as our wild beauty can be quite unpredictable. We have both wooden and electric grills, and if you forget something essential, like spices or oil, just let us know, and we’ll point you to where you can reserve it.
