Elena: Creating Intricate Miniatures from Polymer Clay

Elena: Creating Intricate Miniatures from Polymer Clay

In Macedonia, there are many people with unique hobbies or crafts. At Kajak.mk, our mission is to share all their stories, introduce you to these individuals, and of course, support them in their work. Today, we take you to the village of Shlegovo, where Elena lives and creates. She reached out to the Kajak.mk team to share her story of crafting miniatures from polymer clay.

Elena tells us how, from the very beginning, she discovered polymer clay and its endless possibilities. She started creating jewelry pieces, bookmarks, decorating tea cups, and more.

Elena says that she became interested in miniatures after reading online about people who were engaged in this craft. She was amazed by the skill and creativity with which people created dollhouses, dioramas, and other items. It was these kinds of stories that inspired Elena to begin working on similar creations.

Today, she focuses on miniatures inspired by her childhood, rural life, her grandparents' home, and traditional Macedonian elements. In the photos, you'll notice miniatures resembling old pots, houses, chairs, and food.

For the creation of the miniatures, Elena uses polymer clay, wood, MDF, fabric, metal and plastic parts, thread, cardboard, and similar materials. She predominantly uses recycled fabrics from old bed sheets or clothes, cardboard, and metal and plastic components.

The duration of each creation depends on the item being made. For example, for a 7 cm table, Elena needs 4 to 5 hours. Most of the time is spent on baking the clay, varnishing, and drying. The products are made to order. Elena says that the same items you see in the photos can be made, but additional customizations can also be added based on the customer's wishes.
