Capturing the Spirit of Macedonia Through Travel Photography

Capturing the Spirit of Macedonia Through Travel Photography

The team at Kajak.mk is happy to have met another young and ambitious individual today, someone who is making small yet significant contributions to the promotion of tourism in Macedonia. Ana Petroska is our new local heroine, who, through her lens, showcases various destinations across the country that you can visit, even for just a weekend.

She lives in Skopje, but luck has helped her travel constantly across the country. Her project, justaphoto.ap (Instagram), was created to brand amateur photos with the goal of promoting various unique spots in Struga.

Ana says that one of the things people recognize her for is, of course, photography. She expects this to become the dominant aspect of her work in the future. Her photos primarily focus on landscapes, but she also wants to showcase the beauty of cities.

"For example, the city of Krushevo can be photographed from various angles, and the arrangement of the houses and streets provides perfect material for a good and popular photograph. The lake landscapes from Ezerski Lozja and Struga are yet another endless source of inspiration," says Ana.

She adds that all it takes to capture a good photograph is a decent camera and following a few photography rules. When it comes to her hometown, Skopje, she most often photographs places she visits daily, trying to prove that the city has truly beautiful spots, even though we may not notice them or pay attention to them.

Ana is in love with marketing. For her, social media is an excellent platform for promotion, and its power should be fully utilized.

For her, Skopje, Struga, and Krushevo are her favorite cities for photography. She has an emotional, traditional, and historical connection to these places. That's why photos from these locations dominate her work. But what's unique? For Struga, it's definitely the lake, for Krushevo, it's the nature—specifically the surrounding forests and mountains—and Skopje is an urban environment that deserves attention through photography.
