Located just 15 kilometers from the road connecting Ohrid to Resen, and 3 kilometers before the village of Kuratica, is the fish restaurant 'Paradise Valley.' The team at Kajak.mk spoke with Zoran and Toni, two passionate fishermen whose love for the sport inspired them to open their own fishpond made from light and natural materials that blend harmoniously with nature.
The fish restaurant has been in operation for seven consecutive years and exclusively during the summer season. Their season starts by May and lasts until October, before the heavy rains and cold weather set in.
Zoran says that their great passion for fish and fishing led them to start their own business, where they raise fish and later sell it in their restaurant. They began building the fishpond 10 years ago, and the summer restaurant was built two years later.
The location where the fishpond is built is ideal for keeping fish. The clean water from the nearby springs and the pristine nature are the reasons why they have regular guests.
They say the biggest compliments come from foreign tourists who have rarely experienced such nature and take the opportunity to enjoy the day by the river's flow. What is most important to the hosts is that the fish is tasty and clean.
The only meat served is fish, including Ohrid trout, river trout, and carp. Because the fishpond is located on a river in the Ohrid watershed area, it is legally forbidden to raise any other type of fish.
If guests wish, they can catch their own fish, especially at the carp fishpond/lake, which is a real attraction.
In addition to fish, they also serve the standard local samati (a type of dish) and sheep cheese from the village of Plače.
Fishponds and fish require care throughout the year. Separating large fish from small ones, feeding, cleaning, and maintaining the ponds are all part of the job, says Zoran. But he adds that, along with the fish, regular companions also include ducks, chickens, and rabbits, who enjoy the nature and benefits of the location.
