Opnica Village is our new must-visit gastro destination, and the reason we suggest this is the new "Monastery Winery," which opened its doors to visitors in 2019. The founders of the winery are Stefan Kočovski and Dimče Đorđeiski.
The Kajak.mk Gastronomy base is enriched with another excellent destination, named after the nearby monastery, Monastery "St. Kuzman and Damjan."
This is a small winery that impresses the guests who visit. It has a modest and very good story. For those who haven't explored the vineyards of Opnica, the nature will further amaze them. Surrounded by forests with hiking and camping trails, it offers a wonderful ambiance and excellent interior with various barrels.
Our team spoke with the hosts of the winery, who told Kajak.mk that they chose the location because of the abundance of specific energy, peace, and beauty.
The family behind the winery has been involved in winemaking for many years and is proud to present the centuries-old tradition to their guests. Currently, they have vineyards of Vranec, Sémillon, Hamburg, Cabernet, Merlot, Temjanika, and others. The century-old experience and work in viticulture are now expressed through various wine varieties.
Part of the grapes used for wine production comes from the Tikveš region, while another part is from the Ohrid-Struga region. Among the white wines, they have the locally grown "Sémillon," which is cultivated at a solid altitude, aged in French oak barrels, and is considered an excellent wine by many guests.
In addition to wine, they also produce rakija, both white and yellow, and a chokeberry liqueur, which they say is particularly popular among women. For all the drinks, there is appropriate food paired during tastings, including various dairy and meat platters.
The winery boasts an annual production of around 10,000 bottles of wine.
All wine varieties are produced in a simple manner, with minimal use of modern tools. Here, you can find 10 different wine varieties produced in the traditional way inherited from their ancestors.
The winery has a beautiful open area with a capacity for 80 guests, where you can taste wine throughout the day while enjoying the stunning nature. In addition to the open area, the winery also has an indoor space with a capacity for 20 guests.

For those hearing about Opnica Village for the first time, it is located in the municipality of Ohrid, about 10 kilometers northeast of Ohrid along the Ohrid-Resen road. The village's elevation is 770 meters.
