The Kajak team is always happy to share new stories about local heroes who deserve attention, respect, and of course, support. If there’s one thing we’ve wanted to promote through our work, it’s the local economy, and to prove to you that the products you buy from local farmers, agriculturalists, and craftsmen are always tastier than those mass-produced.
Today, we have another sweet story, another local hero whose story is connected to beekeeping and honey production. His name is Vinko Koloski from Ohrid, and he says that the reason he started beekeeping was his love for nature.
The buzzing of bees, the gentle movement of the bare branches, the smell of herbs, freedom, and the endless happiness of being alive are what guide him along the honey path and towards building his story. He chose honey as a product because it has no expiration date, and he has stationed his beehive at 950 meters above sea level in the village of Kuratica, where nature does its part.
He says that this area is specific due to its mainly meadow flora, unlike other forested areas. Far from industry and roads, which are the main reasons why the honey is so healthy.
Today, he sells pressed honey, honey pie, and propolis, which can be tasted if anyone wants to visit the beehive.
For us, Vinko is on a good path for developing gastro tourism in Kuratica. He adds that soon guests will have the opportunity to taste more homemade local products, various teas from St. John's Wort, thyme, homemade cheeses, homemade rakija, and other products.
His brand is called Vinbee. At the moment, he is known for his 100% natural honey, which over the years has won over health food lovers.
