We have many unique stories on Kajak.mk that can be read, visited, experienced, and tasted. One such story that will inspire you to start your car and head to the Malesevo region is the story of the "Bee Farm."

We spoke with Boris Superlisky, one of the people responsible for continuing the family tradition of beekeeping and honey production.

Boris tells us that the love for beekeeping in his family has been passed down through many generations. They have records showing that their ancestors have been involved in this activity since 1836. From grandfather Georgi, to grandfather Mile who lived to 116 years, to grandfather Jovan who was one of the founders of modern beekeeping in Macedonia and Yugoslavia, their late father Mihail, and up to today.

The apiary has a beautiful location. It is deep in the Malesevo mountains, which can only be reached on foot or by off-road vehicle. Their bees have been operating here as long as Boris can remember. The surrounding area is clean and forgotten by civilization, with no electricity, no internet, no telephone, and no asphalted inhabited area within a 27-kilometer radius. What Boris highlights as an important fact is that there are no orchards, no agriculture, and no pesticide spraying in the area. The place is called "Shiroki Dol," and historically, it was the site of a Roman settlement.

Regarding the region, Boris says that it is rich with old, deep oak forests, surrounded by meadows of herbs and various plants, all contributing to the honey's exceptional quality, which has earned many gold medals at international competitions.

Currently, they focus on producing high-quality honey. They offer it in two forms: liquid organic raw honey for the Macedonian market and premium packaging of organic raw honey for the foreign market, which is sold crystallized, or creamed.

Boris says that the apiary is open to tourists. The property includes a weekend house where visitors can stay. There is a pool, which rarely operates, but it is filled with natural water that comes from 70 meters underground. But the most important thing is that they offer visitors the opportunity to visit the apiary, and anyone who wants to follow and learn the process of honey production is welcome. Here, visitors can also harvest honey directly from the hives in the orchard, and those who help are rewarded with honey.

For reaching the location, Boris says that they travel in "vintage cars" from 1968, including six Land Rover 109s, which are a real attraction for guests.

So far, many guests have visited, mostly hikers, as they themselves enjoy hiking, but for those who are not physically prepared to reach the destination, there is an option to travel by bicycle, ATV, cross motorcycles, and similar vehicles.

Boris says there is no better feeling than tasting honey and pollen (perga) directly from the bees, and all of this is complemented by the wonderful homemade food prepared by their mother.
