The "Skopje – Old and New" tour is a several-hour walking adventure through a city that blends different eras.
We begin at Macedonia Square, beneath the statue of Alexander the Great, where we feel the pulse of modern Skopje, surrounded by monuments, fountains, and new architecture. Here, we discuss the "Skopje 2014" project and how it reshaped the city’s face.
We then continue across the Stone Bridge, which has connected both sides of the city for centuries, symbolically and literally.
From the new, we move into the Old Bazaar, where time seems to stand still. We walk on cobblestone streets, passing by craftsmen, blacksmiths, and shops that tell stories from the Ottoman period.
We visit cultural and historical landmarks such as Kurshumli Inn and Suli Inn, before heading to the Mustafa Pasha Mosque, where its silence and view of the fortress offer a rare perspective of the city.
We walk up to the Kale Fortress, where a panoramic view opens up, encompassing all of Skopje – the old, the new, the green, and the urban. The guide shares stories of the Byzantine and Ottoman history, the earthquake and reconstruction, and how the past continuously intertwines with the present.
The tour can end in the relaxed atmosphere of Debar Maalo, where we recommend authentic coffee or lunch at one of the local restaurants.
This stroll is perfect for travelers who want to experience Skopje through the eyes of locals, blending history, architecture, and daily life.
The tour is guided by a local guide who will lead you through the city with stories, anecdotes, and recommendations not found in typical guidebooks.
Discover how Skopje lives today as you walk through its past.
