Suggested Picnic Destination: Ribnicka River

Have you heard of Ribnicka River, considered one of the largest tributaries of the Radika River?

If you haven’t, here is Boris Gjerovski, our local hero, who promotes the positive and beautiful side of the river through stunning photos. For him, it’s a really cool destination for a day picnic or multi-day camping.


For those who are wondering how to get to this location while reading, here are more instructions:

You reach the river via the regional road Mavrovo-Debar. Just after the Korab Trnica complex, heading towards Debar, you need to turn off the regional road towards the villages. At this turnoff, you cross a bridge where the Ribnica flows into the Radika River.

If you’re wondering which area is ideal for a picnic, Boris recommends the area near Trnica, just before Radika.


As soon as you arrive at the spot, you will first be amazed by the clarity of the water. Therefore, our advice/recommendation is to always carry a trash bag with you and never leave any waste at your camping site, and under no circumstances should you throw it into any of the forest bins for small waste, as they are rarely emptied.

Trash should always be disposed of in city dumpsters.

The Ribnicka River originates from several springs on Mount Korab, around the peak Bachilski Kamen and the areas of Gorni and Dolni Chardak, east of the Škrtec pass, at an altitude of about 1,920 meters. From there, it continues by merging with the Izvirski and Babini (Proj and Babes) streams in the valley above the village of Tanushe.

This river flows directly below the village of Ribnica, from which it takes its name. It then receives two more tributaries: Ragalech from the right and Dlaboka River from the left, becoming fuller until it joins the Radika River.
