Snow Covers Macedonia: A True Winter in 2026

This winter, snow has heavily covered Macedonia, creating a true winter scene across the country. On January 21, 2026, snowfall spread across most regions and cities, especially in the western and southwestern areas, where the snow layer reached around 5–10 cm, while higher and mountainous areas saw even deeper coverage, creating a snowy atmosphere that blanketed the mornings in white.

During this period, a cold air mass from the north moved in, causing temperatures to drop and precipitation that was mostly snow in the mountains, while in lower areas it started as rain that gradually turned into snow.

In the first days of January, meteorologists predicted cyclonic activity that brought rain and snow, with significant snow accumulation forming and spreading at higher elevations.

Besides creating a beautiful winter scene, the snow also affected road and traffic conditions, especially in the larger mountainous areas, prompting drivers to be cautious due to wet or snowy roads.

These snowy conditions offer excellent opportunities for winter activities, such as skiing or nature walks, and significantly enhance the tourism appeal of mountainous areas, especially during the coldest months of winter.
