Macedonians Open “Rakija Bar” in the Czech Republic: Balkan Cuisine in the Heart of Kladno

Macedonians Open “Rakija Bar” in the Czech Republic: Balkan Cuisine in the Heart of Kladno

Happiness and success are not measured by latitude or longitude. They are not defined by where we are, but by how much love and dedication we invest in what we create. True success is born when roots are not forgotten, but nurtured and transformed into inspiration—into a story that travels with us wherever we go.

Kajak.mk has always believed that Macedonia does not end at its physical borders. It lives wherever the scent of homemade food still lingers, where the Macedonian language can be heard, and where hearts continue to beat in the rhythm of the homeland—even thousands of kilometers away from home.

Today, we bring you the story of Antonija Gjorgjieva and her husband Kire—people who made one of the most difficult, yet bravest decisions in life: to leave Macedonia and continue their journey in the Czech Republic. In the town of Kladno, they are now building something of their own—honest, authentic, and deeply personal—a place that truly feels like home.

That place is called “Rakija Bar”—a restaurant and bar named after Macedonia’s most recognizable drink, a symbol of togetherness, warmth, and tradition.

Antonija shares that the idea for such a space was born two years ago, when their daughter began training at a Czech football club. Casual get-togethers with her teammates and their parents slowly turned into shared meals, conversations, and the discovery of Balkan flavors. With strong support from her husband and friends, Antonija found the courage to follow her biggest dream—to create her own culinary story, seasoned with love, childhood memories, and happiness.

Although “Rakija Bar” is located at Komenského 404 in Kladno, the moment you step inside, you feel far from the Czech Republic. The atmosphere transports you to the warmth of a Macedonian home—to mothers’ kitchens and the irresistible aroma of freshly baked homemade bread.

The interior has been designed with great care, love, and patience by Antonija herself, with one simple wish—to help guests, even for a moment, forget how far they are from the place they long for, a feeling so familiar to all of us living abroad.

Antonija proudly says that Kire is her greatest support—the person who believes in her the most and stands firmly behind every step of this journey. Together, they prove that when love and trust are the foundation, anything is possible.

The menu at “Rakija Bar” is a true ode to Macedonian and Balkan cuisine. The day begins with traditional burek—a breakfast that, as they say, no real day can start without. It continues with pizzas, Balkan-style grilled dishes, homemade ajvar, kajmak, fresh Macedonian salads, beer, and of course, rakija—the drink that gave the bar its name.

“Rakija Bar” is more than just a place to eat and drink. It is living proof that Macedonia exists beyond its borders. That tradition is not lost, but passed on. And that with love, courage, and dedication, every dream can find a home—even in the heart of the Czech Republic.

We will continue to tell and support stories like this. Your role is to visit them, share them, and support them. And if you are far from “Rakija Bar,” the least you can do is share their story—perhaps you have friends in or around Kladno who would appreciate a perfect recommendation for a delicious lunch or dinner.
