Macedonians Choose Popova Shapka as the Most Affordable Skiing Option
Popova Shapka has been selected as the most cost-effective skiing destination in Macedonia, according to the results of a survey conducted by Kajak.mk. The survey was carried out in the popular Facebook group “Tourism in Macedonia,” where a total of 360 respondents shared their opinions. The largest share of participants—45 percent—cast their vote in favor of Popova Shapka. This result positions Popova Shapka as the leading choice in terms of value for money.
Mavrovo ranked second with 24 percent of the votes, while Ponikva received the support of 15 percent of respondents. Mihajlovo, Nizhepole, and Kopanki recorded significantly fewer votes, indicating a clear difference in perception among skiers. Several alternative responses were also added by group members themselves. Some of them, using an ironic tone, expressed dissatisfaction with the overall ski offer in the country.

The main criterion for voting was not the size of the ski resorts, but the value of the ski pass in relation to what is offered. Prices of food and beverages at the ski resorts were also taken into account. This approach enabled a more realistic comparison from the perspective of the average skier. The survey showed that visitors increasingly value affordability over luxury.

In the comments, some participants shared specific personal experiences. Aleksandar Canka Jankoski noted that when it comes to ski slopes, the choice falls on Popova Shapka and Mavrovo, while Kopanki offers the most pleasant atmosphere and the lowest prices for leisure. He pointed out that coffee on the ski slopes can be found at prices ranging from 50 to 80 denars, which is rare at other resorts. Additionally, it was emphasized that the slopes in Kopanki have been in good condition over the past two years.

However, more critical views were also expressed. User Pujukliev Nako briefly commented that none of the ski centers meet expectations and that they are all “fit for a museum.” Dimitar Trimcevski, on the other hand, believes that a true comparison can only be made by those who have skied abroad. These comments highlight the need for continuous investment and further development of ski infrastructure in Macedonia.
