Mountain House Stay: A Destination That Invites Exploration

Mountain House Stay: A Destination That Invites Exploration

Many of you have yet to hear about the village of Virovo, but the Kajak.mk team is proud to already feature a unique accommodation there on the platform.

For curious adventurers eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new hideaway to retreat to, we want to share more information about this charming village.

Virovo is located in the municipality of Demir Hisar, and what makes this village stand out is its altitude — at 840 meters above sea level sits this unique house. The village has been inhabited since ancient times, dating back to the Roman period, and today it is home to Macedonians of Orthodox faith. During the Ilinden Uprising, the Virovo band was directly responsible for protecting the rebel headquarters led by Dame Gruev. During that time, Dame Gruev and Nikola Karev moved through the Plakenska Mountain.

Dear travelers, the Kajak.mk team recommends you visit the trails once traveled by these revolutionaries.

The doors of the home were opened by the hostess Snežana, a positive and communicative person who wants to develop tourism in the region in a unique way. What makes her accommodation different is the fact that guests, besides staying overnight, can also purchase local products produced by the local community, such as cheese, ricotta, milk, eggs, fruits, vegetables, hazelnuts, teas, jams, liquors, and St. John's wort.

Snežana’s home has a yard, which she describes as small but charming. There are neighbors, but the settlement is not densely populated. Often, you can see the neighbor’s horse drinking water from the nearby streams.

For the hosts, the most important thing is that guests make the most of their free time with outdoor activities. Therefore, as advice to everyone who decides to stay in their home, they emphasize hiking through the mountains, either on foot or by jeep. Not far from their home, there is a tourist spot called "Evrejka," which has a wooden table, benches for sitting, a grill, and an oven. If you continue further, you will reach the very summit at 1990 meters above sea level, from where you can see Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa.

Jeep tours can be booked directly through the owners, costing 2,000 MKD for 1 to 3 people or 3,000 MKD for groups of 4 to 6 people.

Regarding the wider area, we recommend visiting the village of Sloeshtica, which has a restaurant, the village of Slepche, also home to a restaurant and a women's monastery with nuns, the library in the village of Babino, and other landmarks.
