Macedonia Has Its Own Paradise Valley Worth Visiting

Macedonia Has Its Own Paradise Valley Worth Visiting

Kajak.mk's gastronomic journey through Macedonia continues in the Ohrid region. The Ohrid region is not just about the lake and history. The area boasts pristine nature, healthy and delicious food, and unique stories of local heroes who have dedicated their lives to creating something authentic in harmony with nature.

What we will introduce to you today is part of our list of destinations for eco team-building trips that we have started organizing, and these trips are something every company should offer to their employees. For those who haven't applied for a team-building trip yet, they can do so with just one click HERE.

Just 15 kilometres off the main road from Ohrid to Resen, and 3 kilometres before the village of Kuratica, you will find the fish restaurant "Rajska Dolina". The Kajak.mk team spoke with Zoran and Toni, two passionate fishermen whose love for the sport inspired them to open their fishery, built using light and natural materials that blend seamlessly with nature.

The fish restaurant has been operating for seven consecutive years, exclusively during the summer season. Their season begins by May and lasts until October, before the heavy rains and cold weather set in.

Zoran says that their strong passion for fish and fishing motivated them to start their own business, where they breed fish and later sell it in their restaurant. Ten years ago, they began building the fishery, and two years later, they constructed the summer restaurant.

The location where the fishery is built is ideal for fish farming. The clean water from the nearby springs and the pristine nature are the reasons why they have regular guests.

They say that the greatest compliments they receive come from foreign tourists, who rarely experience such untouched nature and take the opportunity to enjoy the day by the river's current.

Only fish is served on the menu, specifically Ohrid trout, river trout, and carp. Since the fishery is located on a river in the Ohrid watershed area, it is legally prohibited to breed other types of fish.

If guests wish, they can catch their own fish, especially at the carp fishery/lake, which is a true attraction.

In addition to the fish, they also serve standard homemade bread and sheep cheese from the village of Plače.

The fishery and the fish require care throughout the entire year. Separating the large fish from the small ones, feeding, cleaning, and maintenance are all part of the process, says Zoran. He also adds that besides the fish, their regular companions are the ducks, chickens, and rabbits, who also enjoy the nature and benefits of the place.

The "Rajska Dolina" fishery can be found in our new "Gastronomy" database, where you'll find the location and direct contact information for the hosts.
