Stay at a Winery Growing Organic Wine in Its Cellar

Stay at a Winery Growing Organic Wine in Its Cellar

The beautiful stories that signify "tourism" are written with great pleasure. Despite the pandemic challenging the sector, the team at Kajak.mk is doing its best to promote the people in Macedonia who are doing small things with great significance for the development of tourism.

Today, we want to introduce you to a successful story, which has only recently begun to be written. Meet Goce Popov, who, along with his wife, is a great wine enthusiast. Goce says that they have traveled all over the world and visited many wineries. They got to know Tuscany, Istria, Slovenia, and Serbia, and in Macedonia, they claim to have visited all the places where good wine is produced.

Three years ago, they decided to buy an old house built in 1956 and dig a cellar where they would store all the fermentation tanks for the wine.

Last year, when the pandemic was starting to subside, they decided to start the story called "Popovi Cellar."

They chose Kavadarci as the ideal city to develop their story due to the wine region itself, the large number of sunny days throughout the year, excellent climatic conditions, beautiful location, and the ideal soil for red and white grape varieties. They also chose it because of the tradition from three generations of making wine in their homes, which they now want to continue.

The goal of the wine cellar is to round off their dedication and love for wine, as well as to leave a legacy for future generations to nurture what the soil offers them.

Registered as legal entities in the wine market, their cellar today has the capacity to produce 6,000 bottles with five different labels: Vranec, Disan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Temjanika Gold, Chardonnay Smolnik, and Vranec Barrique.

The winery also offers accommodation where guests can stay in rooms with a glass view of the wine cellar. The capacity is for 8 people, with four apartments available.

The winery offers a tasting of four wines, served along with prosciutto, cheese, and traditional Kavadrci bread (gevreka).

In the cellar, they also age their first organic Vranec wine, made from organic Vranec grapes. Goce says he is especially proud that after 12 months of aging in a barrel and 6 months in the bottle, this wine, with 16% alcohol, will be available on the market as the first red organic wine produced in their winery. This production will have a limited edition of 300 bottles.
