Finding Peace in Radožda: Wild Fish and Authentic Homemade Makalo

Finding Peace in Radožda: Wild Fish and Authentic Homemade Makalo

There are many travelers who prefer the winter tranquility by Lake Ohrid over the summer hustle and bustle caused by mass tourism.

Some people simply seek a way to enjoy the sound of the lake’s waves while sitting in one of the local traditional restaurants, savoring freshly prepared fish. For this category of adventurers, the Kajak.mk team recommends Villa Radožda, located right on the shore in the southwestern part of the Struga Municipality.

We spoke with our hostess Irena, who welcomed us with homemade makalo, fresh bread with a crispy crust, and baked potatoes — a true symbol of a warm, hospitable greeting.

Irena says that Villa Radožda is a family business that has been operating since 2008. What makes this place unique is that fish specialties are prepared here in a traditional homemade way. Only local ingredients are used for these traditional recipes — wild fish from Lake Ohrid, served with homemade side dishes as well.

The food at Villa Radožda is part of the “Slow Food” family, and we recommend you try their specialties such as Struga-style eel, carp cooked with onions and the host’s secret spices, trout, rich salads, and an authentic atmosphere reminiscent of the nearby sea. For dessert, enjoy ravani and Irena’s homemade cookies packed with walnuts.

This unique gastronomic spot, now part of the "Gastronomy" database where you can find direct contact for reservations, is the perfect choice for those who want to experience the tranquility of the lake and savor delicious food.

Villa Radožda also offers accommodation, which will soon be included in the Kajak.mk database.
