Cooking in Nature: A True Escape That Brings Freedom and Peace

Cooking in Nature: A True Escape That Brings Freedom and Peace

The Kajak.mk team introduces you to another fascinating local nomad, with whom an exciting collaboration is expected in the upcoming summer season.

He lives and works in Radovish, and locals know him as Gonev, while on social media, he’s followed under the name “Gonev – The Modern Nomad.”

What drew us to reach out to him was his unique way of promoting the beauty of Macedonia, especially the wilderness of the eastern region of the country.

For Kajak.mk, he shares that the idea behind "The Modern Nomad" comes from his lifestyle and his love for cooking. The name reflects his personal concept — filming in various locations and preparing food in a rustic way evokes the essence of nomadic living, while his focus on building a strong physical appearance adds the "modern" touch to it.

For Gonev, it all began as a hobby. His love for nature and cooking merged into one, and he decided to document the entire process through videos — hoping that many people will watch and be inspired to try it themselves.

The feedback he receives is overwhelmingly positive. “This is something completely new and attractive,” he says.

For now, he isn’t focused on a single cuisine. Gonev prepares dishes from various world cuisines, most often choosing popular and beloved meals enjoyed by people across the globe. He says that in the future, he plans to focus more on traditional Macedonian specialties, as he prefers to use organic and fresh ingredients, and also enjoys utilizing tools offered by nature itself.

“Macedonia is rich in beautiful nature, and one of my goals is to showcase that beauty through my videos,” says Gonev. “I mostly visit the eastern regions of Macedonia. I try to choose places that are close to a river or a spring, because when I cook, I always use water from the place where I’m staying. I can’t single out specific things that make Macedonia special, because we truly have incredible nature that needs to be nurtured and preserved.”

The mission of "The Modern Nomad" is to inspire people to love and protect nature, spend more time outdoors, and consume healthier food.

Gonev is the new local hero—someone doing small things that have a big impact on the development of tourism in Macedonia. Starting today, he becomes part of our network of individuals who offer unique experiences across the country.
