Goran Angeloski is considered one of the local heroes who deserves great attention due to the fact that he tirelessly promotes this region of Macedonia and creates new stories worth experiencing.

One such story is the ethno restaurant "Dedo Dimo," which officially opened in 2017. Goran remembers that the opening was celebrated with much fun, guests, and fireworks. When asked how the restaurant got its name "Dedo Dimo," Goran explained that it is a special occasion and a story in honor of their great-great-grandfather Dimo. The story of "Dedo Dimo" dates back to the 19th century, passed down from generation to generation by the family's ancestors and the villagers of Kuratica.

An interesting fact is that there is no exact information about when "Dedo Dimo" was born or when he passed away, but according to oral tradition, it was around the middle of the 19th century. It is said that he took care of Kuratica, and the most significant impression was his bravery in dealing with the bandits who frequently entered the village, stealing and causing trouble. One day, the villagers informed Dedo Dimo that the bandits had stolen his best lamb. Knowing that they would escape to the Zenko spring, located between Sirula and Zlesti, Dimo set off with his "Martinki" rifles.

While the bandits were roasting the lamb, singing and celebrating, Dimo arranged his rifles in a radius around them and waited until the meat was cooked and they sat at the table. After the lamb was prepared, Dedo Dimo began firing from all sides. Thinking they were under attack by a larger group of villagers, the bandits fled, leaving the roasted lamb behind. Dedo Dimo took the lamb and carried it to the center of the village, where he treated the locals.

However, at that moment, while the main bandit Zenko (after whom the spring is named today) was fleeing, he dropped his tobacco pouch. Zenko sent word to Dedo Dimo to return the pouch, promising that they would no longer cause harm in the village.

Dedo Dimo responded that the pouch could be retrieved personally from his house.

Zenko, along with his armed companions, arrived in the village, where Dedo Dimo greeted them. After a few minutes of conversation, Dedo Dimo convinced them to lower their weapons and said, "Welcome home, in this village I am the chief, not you."

After the settlement and reconciliation, Dimo returned the tobacco pouch, and from that day, there were no more troubles or banditry in the village. Today, the village honors his heroism, and his grandchildren continue to preserve and cherish his name. The restaurant "Dedo Dimo" is considered one of the best gastronomic destinations in this region of Macedonia, and believe me, the surroundings are beautiful.

The restaurant is managed by Goran's wife and their two daughters, who are responsible for procurement, reservations, and other activities, while Goran oversees the music, construction, and expansion of the establishment. This division of duties creates an excellent family organization.

Goran says that they initially promoted the restaurant on social media, but now the satisfaction of guests who have visited once is the main reason they have regular gourmets at the restaurant. Every satisfied guest returns and brings their friends and relatives with them.

The most important aspect of the restaurant's operation is the delicious food, which must be fresh and local. Some of the specialties include moussaka, sarma, country-style stew, tavče gravče, gjomleze, pitulici, homemade ajvar, pinđur, and lutenca. Here, you can enjoy famous macalo, komat, homemade oven-baked bread, homemade sausages, meat in a pot, country meat in homemade bread, cheese, and yogurt produced by the local people. The highlight of the kitchen is the specialties cooked under a bell or in the oven, as well as other specialties that are sometimes not on the menu but are occasionally available on the table.

Goran is happy that an increasing number of guests from other cities in Macedonia are visiting, and during the summer, there is a growing number of foreign tourists.

He says that if a tourist wants to enjoy active tourism in Macedonia, they can do so in Kuratica. Kuratica offers a beautiful view of the two largest lakes in Macedonia, and in addition to the gastronomic experience, there are "Off-road" adventures with jeeps and ATVs, donkey rides, nature walks to Mazatar (1626 m above sea level) and Plajenska Mountain with Stalev Kamen (1999 m above sea level).

If there is interest from a larger group, Goran organizes camping in nature with tents owned by "Dedo Dimo." For mountain biking, cross motorcycles, and hiking enthusiasts, there are marked mountain trails in all directions that are continuously being developed. Last year, in collaboration with the famous Macedonian photographer Stojan Stojanovski (one of the best promoters of Macedonia through photography), they organized several stargazing tours for lovers of the night sky and stars. Anyone can join the tour and experience a unique evening under the open sky. Participants receive a photograph of the Milky Way.

What we at Kajak expect is the official opening of the accommodation facilities that "Dedo Dimo" will offer, and they will definitely be part of our base of private accommodations.
