Why Santa Doesn’t Like You

Why Santa Doesn’t Like You

Why Santa Might Skip Macedonia This Year

As the year comes to a close, the team at Kajak.mk decided to mix a bit of satire with a hefty dose of reality to remind us of our everyday “flaws” – which, let’s be honest, we create ourselves. These habits turn Macedonia from a beautiful country into a place where everyone only cares about their own yard, ignoring the street in front of them. Let’s see why Santa might just skip us this year… and it’s not because Macedonia has some of the tastiest food or the most stunning mountains.

Rule #1: Trash It – But Make It Creative!
In Macedonia, there’s a secret rule: if you haven’t thrown trash on the street, have you even truly lived here? Everything gets tossed – napkins, bags, bottles, cigarette butts… and the favorite destination? Straight out of the car window. Nature here follows the “leave a mark you were here” philosophy.

Mountain? Throw a bag – let everyone know you climbed the peak.
Park? Spill your beer – you didn’t come to meditate, you came for “fun.”

And the excuse? “The municipality will clean it up, they’re paid for that.”

Green Spaces? Just Parking Lots!
While parks in other countries are for relaxing, ours double as impromptu garages. No street parking? No problem – just drive onto the grass! Then we wonder why green spaces disappear. Each tire flattens the grass better than a lawnmower.

Receipts? No Thanks – “Cheaper This Way”
One of our superpowers is avoiding fiscal receipts. We want cheap prices but also better education, better healthcare, and European institutions – without paying for them ourselves. We shop “off the books” and complain that the state has no money. Santa just watches… and takes notes.

Respect? That’s Old-Fashioned!
Behavior boils down to: “Me first!” “I’m more important!” “Let them wait, I’m in a hurry!”

No tolerance for elders, pregnant women, animals, or even the plants bravely surviving among concrete.

The Law Should Apply to Everyone… Except Me!
We think we’re smart when we “grab a piece” of advantage. We ignore rules, avoid obligations, yet expect a functional, lawful country.

Santa says: “I can’t give you order if you don’t want to create it yourselves.”

So, what does Santa really want?
Simply this: for us to start with ourselves.

Respect Macedonia
Follow the law
Clean up after yourself
Don’t create new waste
Protect nature
Be a good person – not just a tourist in your own country

Over time, if we all change just a little, Santa will come, sit under the tree, and finally bring what we all truly want: a better life.

And one last thing – travel!
Travel across Macedonia. Promote the country’s beauty, be patriotic the right way, care for cultural heritage, respect nature, and be kind local guides for tourists.

Then – just maybe – next year Santa won’t skip us. He’ll see that Macedonia is a place worth stopping for.
