Weekly Discovery from Macedonia: Smrdliva Voda – Kožuf

Weekly Discovery from Macedonia: Smrdliva Voda – Kožuf

Smrdliva Voda is located on Mount Kožuf at around 850 meters above sea level, in an area characterized by dense forest, clean mountain air, and a natural mineral water spring.

The place is known for its mineral spring containing sulfur compounds, which give the water a distinctive smell and are the reason behind the name “Smrdliva Voda.” Despite the unusual name, the spring has long been recognized locally and is associated with traditional use and natural properties.

The location also functions as a small weekend settlement, increasingly used in recent years as a mountain getaway, especially during the summer months when temperatures are higher in lower regions.

Smrdliva Voda serves as a starting point for several hiking trails on Kožuf Mountain, leading toward the higher parts of the range. Because of this, it is visited by hikers and outdoor enthusiasts looking for longer trekking routes and nature activities.

Access is possible by car, and there are several accommodation facilities and mountain lodges in the immediate vicinity.

For visits and accommodation in the Kožuf region, options are available via kajak.mk.
