Weekly Discovery from Macedonia: Hidden Stories Worth Sharing
Weekly Discovery from Macedonia: Hidden Stories Worth Sharing
Each week, we open a small window into Macedonia that often goes unnoticed — places, people, and stories that are not part of the usual tourist maps, but carry something far more valuable: authenticity, character, and meaning.
Through this series “Weekly Discovery from Macedonia”, kajak.mk aims to highlight locations that surprise, inspire, and connect us with the deeper layers of the country. These are not just attractions, but living stories that deserve to be seen, remembered, and shared.
This week, we travel to a quiet village in Demir Hisar, where one of the most unusual cultural spaces in the region is located — the “AL-BI” Library in Babino.
At the heart of the village, the library represents an important cultural and educational center operating as a private initiative with a clear purpose: collecting, preserving, and providing access to a literary collection covering a wide range of fields and genres.
What makes this library special is its continuous development and openness to visitors, researchers, and literature enthusiasts. Over time, it has grown into a place where cultural and literary heritage is documented and preserved, with a strong focus on local history and significant publications.
Today, the “AL-BI” Library stands as an example of how a single private initiative can grow into a valuable community resource, especially in rural areas where such spaces are rare but hold significant cultural and educational importance.
