Photo from Bistra: Camping in a tent under a million stars

Meet Marko, and some of our readers and travelers may already know him from #insta as @markomons. He is a person who loves to live in the moment with style, and from his Instagram photos, it’s clear he also loves to travel. We can see many posts from trips abroad, but as he says, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was time to focus a little on #HOME.

He spent the past period camping with his friends on Bistra, which he describes as an amazing experience. He adds that beyond Bistra, every camping trip, no matter the location or company, is unique. The feeling of isolation and freedom when you’re alone in the mountains is incomparable to camping in organized camps, he says.

The night he took the photos you see was very calm and cloudless. The moon rose later, giving him ideal conditions to capture shots of the Milky Way and the Neowise comet, which was still faintly visible.

He adds that he always carries his camera with him. As he says, he “hauls” his backpack along in case something interesting comes up, so he can capture the moment—just like he did with his photos of Bistra.

Bistra is a mountain range located in the central part of Western Macedonia. Due to its rich flora and fauna, as well as its pleasant and healing mountain climate, it is a highly attractive destination for tourists, offering opportunities for both winter skiing and summer stationary tourism. It rises between the Kičevo Valley to the east and the course of the Radika River to the west. Its northern boundary is marked by the basin of Mavrovo Lake and the course of the Mavrovska River, while the southern boundary stretches from the source of the Treska River along the Ehlovečka River, the Yama Pass with the Yamska River, the Garska River, and the Mala River all the way to Boškov Bridge.
