Kožuf is Most Beautiful in Winter: Dimitar Captures the Life of the Mountain
Everyone has their favorite guide! If you ask us who our favorite guide for great photos of Kožuf Mountain is, we won’t hesitate to say it’s Dimitar Novakov.
Following the steps of this young and talented photographer and browsing through his stunning photos on his Instagram profile @novakovdimitar, it’s clear that he doesn’t just photograph the mountain — he truly lives it.

Through his photographs, Dimitar tells the story of one of the most beautiful mountains in Macedonia — a mountain rich in its untouched nature.
Novakov says that anyone can take a great photo if they go to the mountain. According to his advice, the most important thing is to feel the pulse of Kožuf and capture what the mountain offers us, rather than what we are looking for.

The small mountain springs (bachila) are among Dimitar’s favorite locations for photography. These springs are found everywhere, with many of them located on the mountain’s slopes — which is a good indication of where a photography tour might begin.
Dimitar advises paying close attention to the weather forecast, as Kožuf is quite a unique mountain that can change its mood within short periods. Depending on the season, it’s important to have protective gear for rain, wind, and snow when visiting the mountain.

Dimitar advises that to take great photos regardless of the season, you should visit the mountain village of “Kruša.” A dirt road leads to Kruša, which you need to hike on foot. Believe it or not, for a full 7 kilometers, the path is surrounded by dense forest with huge trees.
From the very peak of Kožuf, you can capture photos overlooking Lake Dojran, and during winter, the shots from the summit are truly priceless.

Our advice is not to go alone if you have never been on the mountain before. Regardless of the season, it’s always best to hike with experienced mountain guides who can assist you with any needs you may have.
