Meet Davor: Veles' Unique Pyrographer

The team at Kajak.mk continues to promote local heroes in Macedonia, whom we consider one of the main pillars of tourism. If we want tourism to move in the right direction, we must not overlook their stories, which may be small but are of great importance in the development of this sector.

Today, we take you to the city of Veles, where the scent of workshops from old crafts spreads through narrow streets, maintaining the spirit of patience, will, and tranquility in the creation of new handmade products.

In one of Veles' alleys, we met a man with a rare craft of today, and he is our new local hero whose story deserves to be featured on Kajak.mk.

We would like to introduce you to Davor, a Veles native who manages to combine his love for art and nature through a rare technique called "Pyrography," which involves drawing on wood by burning it.

Davor is from Veles, and his love for art has been nurtured since childhood. In the history of his family, craftsmanship and art are found in various forms – from furniture and wooden item production to leatherworking.

Over the years, he has managed to combine his love for art and nature into a technique that is rarely perfected in these areas today.

The process exclusively uses dry, fallen trees.

Speaking to Kajak.mk, he says that he has been practicing pyrography since his teenage years as a hobby. He is a self-taught pyrographer, gradually enhancing his skills.

About two years ago, his hobby evolved into a deeper passion that motivated him to start focusing more on perfecting his craft. Today, he has become an excellent artist, with his works adorning many spaces.

Although these works are created on wood, Davor says that he is a great lover of nature and the forest. It is precisely because of this connection that he feels it is important to emphasize that the works are made on dry trees, whose lifespan has ended. The beauty of pyrography as a profession is that it extends the lifespan of these dry trees, making them live on forever.

Creation Process

"The process begins with the preparation and shaping of the wood. The drawing itself takes the most time, and it ends with varnishing and protecting the wood," he explains, adding that depending on the theme and dimensions, the time needed for creation varies, ranging from at least three to fourteen days for a masterpiece.

Davor creates paintings on a variety of themes, and most often, he works on commissions. The greatest interest comes from people who want to give something unique and rare. Today, he is working on expanding his product range, including the creation of night lamps and various decorative items.

Some of his works will soon be available at the Kajak.mk store, but in the meantime, you can contact Davor directly at 072/266-889.
