Ethno House in Prespa: A Stay That Offers an Experience from Another Dimension

Ethno House in Prespa: A Stay That Offers an Experience from Another Dimension

The summer months are ideal for taking a detour to a destination where the locals are the true local heroes who will introduce you to the history and tradition of the region.

In the Kajak.mk database, we have such an ethno house where you can stay and feel the spirit of the Prespa region and the way the local people live throughout the year.

The villa is located in the village of Dolno Dupeni, and what makes this accommodation special is the fact that the hosts prepare traditional breakfasts for you every morning.

The host Aleksandar told Kajak.mk that the villa is a leader in "green hospitality." It features a modern and minimal design with traditional details. The building, where guests currently stay, used to be an old house that was renovated with the purpose of repurposing it for upscale rural tourism.

During the renovation, great care was taken to preserve as much of the traditional decor and interior as possible, while also implementing systems and protocols that ensure minimal environmental impact (eco-friendly heating, LED lighting, carbon-offset program, complete wastewater treatment, solar water heaters, environmentally friendly local building materials, biodegradable cosmetics and detergents, no single-dose cosmetics, eco activities, etc.).

Prespa, unlike the rest of Macedonia, is a region untouched by wild urbanization and a place where you can truly enjoy harmony with nature. The villa enhances the overall experience in Prespa by offering comfortable accommodation and quality activities within the traditional setting of Dolno Dupeni, one of the most picturesque villages in Lower Prespa.

The Macedonian part of Prespa is a region with great potential for hiking and cycling tours (MTB/road), as well as water activities (SUP/kayak), with equipment available to guests. Besides active tours, the historical landmarks of Prespa are also very attractive, along with nearby Pelagonia and Ohrid, which feature numerous medieval churches and monasteries, as well as archaeological sites from various eras, all of which can be visited year-round.

Golem Grad Island in the large Prespa Lake is part of Galichica National Park, unique in the region for its natural, cultural, and historical heritage (tours to the island can be organized upon request). Upon guests' request, demonstrations of local and traditional cooking can be arranged, as well as activities that include visits to local farms and meeting neighbors and friends from Dolno Dupeni and nearby villages.
